Have your website rankings changed?

November 8th, 2005

The SEO community is in a bit of a tither about the recent changes in Google’s dancing antics. Coined, ‘Jagger’ the recent series of crawls has shook up search engine rankings.

There are some basic factors we’ve noticed that seem to count more then before in regards to your websites search results.

1. The length of time your website and it’s internal pages have been live.

2. The way that backlinks are calculated.

3. Even site content and structure seems to have changed.

Dave Davies from Beanstalk Search Engine Positioning wrote a really informative article on the Jagger changes.

I’m greatful for the change he mentions in backlink’s content relevancy. It appears that the page the backlink is on doesn’t need to have relevant keywords now to weigh so heavily, because Google seems to be able to determine if the backlinking website is in a relevant industry.

Links that appear within the content of a page are being considered more relevant then directory style links also.

In general it seems that Google has managed to make some excellent changes that will deliver the most organic and deserving search results. Wahoo!

I haven’t noticed any changes with my rankings so that’s all I care about. LOL I’m pretty hopeful that the SE’s won’t kick me out since my sites are very valuable and packed full of great content.
